Still Life Photograph by Dan James 18/11/16 (see Gallery for Dan’s artistic creation) I’ve been looking for any photos I might have of Dan. However, the “Still life” photograph created by Dan, depicting an inanimate Gin & Tonic as the subject matter on a tray table onboard an early morning flight to his stag party in Dublin typifies Dan’s application of fun and humour to the “still life artistic style and genre” :-). There’s a funny and happy story behind the picture though, which was very typical of Dan. Dan’s stag doo location was a bit of a secret, which was being organized by his friends. From memory I think he was told by his mates to just turn up at the airport “with a warm coat”, he had no idea where he was headed. In the weeks before his stag do, we did often wonder where he might end up as he had no idea where he was going. He joked and expressed to me only a tiny concern about how long he would be in the air and what he should pack as “flying can sometimes be a self-inflicted inconvenience with all the cramped cattle class seating & being treated like herded sheep before boarding”. Well, he couldn’t have been happier when he found out that he was on his way to Dublin. He just sent me a simple email with a pic of his “Cork G&T” with the words DUBLIN!!!!. He needn’t have said anymore, this turned out to be the start of a brilliant weekend for Dan and his mates in the Emerald Isle (this despite Ireland losing to New Zealand in the Rugby in Dublin that weekend). My thoughts and prayers are with Dan’s wife, and his family. David McGillan (Work Colleague Bristol).
